What's it all about?

Bravetrail lets you keep track of your spending, providing an easy way to build a personal record of the goods and services you purchase around town. You can keep your spending private, review it when necessary to help you stick to your budget, or you can choose to share prices with fellow users, which helps everyone track down the best of the local bargains.

How do I search for a product price?

You can search on a product's UPC code - otherwise know as its barcode - or on all or part of the product's name.

How do I search for a store?

You can search for a store by entering all or part of the store name. Only stores found in your locale are displayed in the autocomplete drop down field.

How do I specify my locale?

You can record three locations with GPS co-ordinates against your profile. When you carry out a search, pick the address you want to use and select the radius of the area you want to search from the 'within' drop down list.

How do I add a price?

You can enter a standalone price for a product you've bought, or a bargain you've just spotted or you can enter a complete receipt with multiple products and prices. To speed up the process, you can select a store/location address you have used before from address pop-up menu.

How do I organise my receipts?

When you list your receipts, they are displayed in date order - latest first. But you can add multiple tags to each receipt, which allows you to arrange them into groups. For example, you could tag your restaurant receipts under 'restaurants' or food shopping under 'groceries' etc. This allows you to list your receipts by tag, focusing on the ones you're interested in at the time.

Can I share my receipts with friends and family?

All prices you enter are anonymised before they are searchable by fellow users. However, you can share a whole receipt, showing location, product and prices if you choose. When viewing one of your receipts, click on '+ read-only link' in the top right-hand corner of the window. This will reveal a URL that you can share with other people. They'll be able to view the receipt, but won't be allowed to make any changes.

Can I upload a hard copy of my receipt?

You can upload three images for each receipt. That could be a photo or scan of the receipt itself, a photo of a favourite shop or a snap of a memorable dish in a great restaurant!

Can I add products to a Wish List?

Yes, there is a Wish List stored in your profile. Remember, when you find a product with a bar code like a book or Blu-ray disc that is too expensive in the shop you're standing, you can easily add it to your Wish List as a reminder to purchase it later from an online store like Amazon.

Can I keep a record of the products I own?

Yes, there is a My Stuff list you can add products to in your profile.

Does the site integrate with Twitter?

Add your Twitter Username and Password to your profile. Then, whenever one of your prices is displayed on screen, a link appear alongside that allows you to Tweet the product name, location and price to your Twitter stream.

Is there an iPhone version?

Yes, the Bravetrail iPhone app is a free download from the Apple App Store. Your can search for local prices using the iPhone's built-in Google Maps and GPS, scan barcodes with the iPhone's camera and add new prices wherever you discover them.
